Whitewater Rafting!

On October 2nd, 2021, our troop went whitewater rafting! It was a wonderful and new experience for all of us, and we were extremely excited. Once we reached Sierra Whitewaters, we rushed to the dining area to eat our lunch, and headed to the place where we would board our rafts.

There, we were provided with safety equipment, such as life jackets and helmets, and given our oars. We split into groups of 6, one per raft, and made sure that each group had a parent with them. We were eager to start rafting, but there were things that we needed to know first. Each group had an instructor who explained the rules that we had to follow on the raft, for our own safety and others'. They would yell commands throughout the trip such as "Forward!" and "Stop!" and would help guide our boat in the right direction. After getting through the safety precautions, we finally set off!

Because we had signed up for the intermediate section, there were many rapids that we came across, all of them thrilling and exciting, although the most significant was the Troublemaker. The Troublemaker occurred about 3/4 of the way into our trip, which lasted for about 4 hours. By the time we reached the treacherous rapid, we had become accustomed to what we were expected to do, and had already experienced smaller rapids. The Troublemaker was a riveting experience, and our boat almost got stranded on a rock! Luckily, our instructor told us what to do, and we made it out without a scratch on our backs, although we were soaked from head to toe. After the Troublemaker, it was all smooth water, and we made it back to where we started easily.

Overall, our whitewater rafting experience was amazing and fun for all of us. Throughout the ride, we had little races with other boats and water-splashing competitions, which made the trip even more enjoyable. After we were finished and dried up, we headed back to the cars and prepared for the long ride home, knowing that we had one of the funnest adventures of our lives.
