On April 27th 2024, scouts hiked ten miles on the Bear Gulch and Alambique trail. This beautiful hike was a great experience for all scouts and included gorgeous scenery of redwood trees. Though this hike had an elevation gain of 2,254 feet at one point, scouts faced this challenge with consistent stamina and determination. With continuous effort, we were able to reach the end of the loop in just a few hours.
We began this hike at around 8:20 am, gathering at the trailhead parking lot. We started to do our typical stretches and a gear check, making sure the older and younger scouts had all the necessary equipment. It was a mostly sunny day with a slight breeze. With everything organized, we were ready to begin this hike.
The parking lot was a short distance away from the actual trail. However, this walking path went upward, and was already somewhat steep. However, scouts overcame this with ease and continued on with the hike. After six miles of hiking, we found a nice lunch spot near the trees. But there was some dew that fell from them, causing the scouts’ lunch to get a little wet! This was a relatively easy hike with good weather and scenery.
There were many positive outlooks on this hike. What really surprised me was the pace at which everyone was going at. Even at the “rough patches” of this hike, our pace was maintained and never slowed down
tremendously. This hike also allowed for a lot of troop bonding. As we ate lunch and continued on this hike, we worked together to encourage one another to continue. This hike was definitely a great experience, containing amazing views, weather, and memories.
