On November 8, 2024, scouts participated in the Fall Camporee 2024 at Rancho Los Mochos. The Camporee was a great experience, in which both older and younger scouts learned new skills, had fun, won competitions, and made new friendships.
When preparing for this camp, the adult leaders and Mahika, our SPL, set up games in a meeting, that were the same as the ones at Rancho Los Mochos. We divided ourselves into patrols and practiced these games. We were overall successful, and scouts were extremely competitive and excited for the camporee and the games.
During our departure, we ran into a tenting issue while doing a gear check at Chadbourne. We were already running low on our supply of tents, as most of them were lost or had missing pieces. However, with some reorganization, we were able to get everyone into tents.
Upon arrival at Rancho Los Mochos, we all walked to our campsite, Gopher Gulch. We pushed through and quickly unloaded gear from the cars and brought them to our campsite. We set up our tents and helped each other take care of patrol boxes, food, and cooking equipment. Throughout the whole night, it was extremely cold, which was a challenge for most of us. Once everything was settled, scouts slept early to prepare for the next day.
The breakfasts and other meals cooked the next day were amazing! The assigned cooks made great meals that everyone enjoyed. The adult leaders also enjoyed the meals and were surprised at the taste and appearance of them. Furthermore, when making dessert with the Dutch oven, we got the Golden Spoon because of Aara’s Galaxy dish, which consisted of peach cobbler, whipped cream, and strawberries!
Additionally, we won archery and rifle shooting, with the help of Tara and Kaashvi O. Tara got a bullseye in archery, and Kaashvi shot three bullets in very close proximity, helping our troop to take home a prize. Finally, we also won other prizes in the games and competitions.
The next day, scouts packed up their gear and tents, and we were ready to go home. The Fall Camporee 2024 was a wonderful experience for scouts to learn more outdoor and camping skills and have fun. Not only was there tons of troop bonding, but scouts continuously supported and encouraged each other. Overall, the Camporee was a success, and many long-lasting memories were made.
