On September 25th, 2021 half of our troop went on a camping trip at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. We walked half a mile from the parking lot to the campground with a lot of weight on our back. As soon as we got to the campground, we started unpacking and setting up our tents. Right after the tents were set up, we assigned patrols to do cooking and cleaning for dinner and breakfast. Some people from two patrols were cooking dinner, while the other members of the patrol would clean after dinner. While some people started cooking the pasta and garlic bread, some other people went to kindle the fire to get their requirements signed off. Newer scouts got the opportunity to observe the older scouts while they did their jobs.
After everyone ate, we sat near the campfire and told scary stories. One even included some of the fun adventures we had a Camp Royaneh! In between the skits and stories, we had short karaoke breaks and everyone had a great time singing Taylor Swift and One Direction off-tune. Once we were done with the stories, we started making s'mores. The smores were delicious. Once we finished the smores, we put out the fire and we all went to sleep.
We all woke up at around 7:00. Many of us heard a dog barking and an animal, presumably a coyote, howling early in the morning. People from assigned patrols started cooking breakfast while others started taking down their tents. For breakfast, we had bread with Nutella and jam. The parents also brought chai.
Once everyone was packed, we planned on going on a hike. During the hike, we ended up taking a wrong turn. Luckily this was noticed by one of our scouts and we managed to get back on track. In total, the hike was about five miles long. After we came back to the campsite, the parents were already waiting. We did a quick sweep and then went home.
One of the things that we could have improved on is making sure all the tents are functional. We had a couple of problems with tents missing parts and not everyone got the chance to tent with people they wanted to be with. We also were a little behind schedule in the morning, but we managed to get back on track later on. Despite these challenges, the campout was great and we all had fun.
