March 5th-10 Mile Hike

Blog Post: Almaden Quicksilver County Park Mountain Bike Trail

On March 5th, part of our troop went on the 10-mile hike. We started off with stretches at about 8:15, which didn’t take too long. After we finished with stretches, we started our hike on the Almaden Quicksilver County Park Mountain Bike Trail. The first part of the hike was a bit steep, but luckily it wasn’t much of a problem. After the steep beginning, the hike became a lot easier since it was mostly flat. It was raining in the morning when we started, but after a while, the temperature rose and we were also warming up.

We encountered California newts many times throughout the entire hike. For a little bit of information about them, they are an orange-bellied newt found in the Western United States and can produce a toxin if felt threatened. In the middle of the hike, we also encountered some deer and some beautiful scenery on our hike.

Our pace was also faster due to fewer people being on that hike. There were fewer breaks needed than expected, and we even had an earlier lunch around 10:30 A.M. We also finished much earlier than expected which was great.

Despite the issues in the hike, it was still a success. We enjoyed the hike and had a wonderful time during the hike. Overall, the hike was a great experience and a great hike included in the hiking merit badge.
