Camp Wente was an unforgettable experience that brought our entire troop closer together. From the moment we arrived, we weren’t exactly sure how we’d make it through a whole week in that blazing summer heat, but before we knew it, the days had flown by and none of us had wanted to leave. By the second day, we were already getting used to the hike all the way to our campsite (the farthest one), and were joking about it on the way to meals. The lake was incredibly beautiful, where some scouts spent their free time sailing, going kayaking, or even just cooling off after a long day of

classes. Merit badge sessions were engaging as well, and by the end of the week, we had all learned a lot, even if it meant sacrificing some sleep to get to an early class, or staying up doing homework under the stars.
By the end of the week, everyone felt closer, especially the new scouts, who got to meet people from other troops, while bonding with the rest of us. Beyond this, the Wentathalon; which was a Wente Original relay race, was full of cheering and chaos. Despite not winning, we were happy to get a few good laughs out of everyone, and celebrate our strong finish. We ended off the week with a closing campfire, where a few of the younger scouts were excited to perform a skit they had created. This skit was a perfect end to a week full of hard work, and really allowed us to reflect on all the memories we were so lucky to have made.

By the end of the week, walking back up the hill to our campsite now felt rewarding rather than punishing. Looking back at Wente, we can all say we learned something. Whether that be toughing out the cold in the early mornings, or getting our campsite organized before inspection, we all learned a lot about responsibility and the importance in supporting one another. Wente challenged us in ways we didn’t expect, but it also reminded us how fun and rewarding scouting can be, especially when we all come together to work as a team.
