March 27th Camping at Mount Madonna

On the 27th of March, we departed for the much awaited camping trip at Mount Madonna! I can safely say that our high hopes and excitement weren’t let down.

After we arrived at Mount Madonna after an hour-long drive, we ritualistically did a count-off and started setting up our tents. When everyone was settled in, we strolled along a scenic short 1.6 mile hike. After we made our way back to the campsite, feeling quite ravenous, we split up the cooking duties, giving each scout a chore to do. We lit up the propane stove, sliced the vegetables, grilled tomatoes, started cooking the paninis, and warmed up the store-bought tomato soup. The paninis were decked with grilled tomatoes and fresh basil, while the soup was decorated with croutons. After everyone devoured the meal, we partnered up with a buddy and went to clean our cooking utensils. Now, there were only 2 more activities we needed to do before cleaning up and going to bed : s’mores & skits! We started the fire and made the s’mores under the supervision of the parents. As we ate, we prepared our skits. 3 of us sang Willow by Taylor Swift, some of us acted out a horror story, and the rest performed a comedy. With the curfew hours starting, we retired to our tents and silently chatted and played uno.

After we woke up at around 7 the next morning, we took down our tents, and packed our bags. By then, we prepared a breakfast of butter croissants with chocolate hazelnut spread and juice. After breakfast, we navigated and went on a 3 mile hike with quite the unexpected discovery. We found an archery range and ran up it’s stairs where we took a picture. We returned from the hike at around 10:30 and had a snack of apples. We ended the trip with the sweep, the scouting method for cleaning up the campsite. Our goal was to leave the campsite in a better state than how we found it.

We finally left the campsite when our parents came to pick us up. As we were leaving, we found one of Mount Madonna’s famous banana slugs. I don’t think we could have asked for a better finale!
