Kayaking Outing

On October 3, 2020, our troop went on a kayaking outing at Shoreline Lake Boathouse. We had a lot of fun kayaking and enjoyed a small picnic afterwards. We arrived in our own cars, followed proper covid-19 procedures, and got in the water to start kayaking. Those of us who knew how to kayak immediately went out to the lake with our life vests, while others who wanted to learn scheduled classes beforehand and were taught by professionals. After our time in the water, we showered and went to a nearby grass field to have a picnic (everyone had their own home packed lunch). We planned the picnic at the last moment, so many scouts didn’t attend, but those of us who did had lots of fun. In total, the outing took about four hours; three hours of kayaking and one hour for our picnic. Though that may seem like a long time, we all had a lot of fun and could have kayaked for even longer.

The both of us - Haasini & Sahana - lead the kayaking outing because we both previously earned the kayaking merit badge. Through emails, we sent out the proper materials to bring, and the form of payment for the kayak rentals. It would have been nice if we could have all kayaked together, instead of some of us taking classes, but safety always comes first! After checking in with those who took the classes, we were relieved to find out that they had a great time too. Next time we go kayaking, we’ll all be together and have double the fun!
