On a cloudy spring day, we all assembled in our class A uniforms to embark on a fun hiking trip with my fellow scouts. Most of us checked in with Mr.Anupindi, our scoutmaster, as we were waiting for others to join us. We had 14 scouts along with a significant number of parent volunteers. I was one of the leaders along with Advika. This was my first time leading a hike, and I was looking forward to it. Mr.Anupindi helped guide us on how to lead the outing.
As we started our hiking journey, many of us decided to keep ourselves entertained with fun games such as "20 questions" and "Would you rather".
From trees and flowers, to squirrels and cows, this hike had it all. We also saw a cave during the hike, and next to the cave was poison oak! I learnt how we can identify poison oak. Poison oak has three leaves, and is shiny. As we continued on our hike, we came across green pastures with cows grazing. We decided to take a break, as we were enjoying the scenery and taking pictures, our parents suggested that we take a picture of us jumping. We all thought it was a brilliant idea. The result says it all. What a happy picture!
While going downhill, we hiked on a narrow gorge which had enough space for one person to walk through. We had to stay in a single file line and give a 4 feet distance between each person to avoid injuries. This was also because of higher elevation.
Towards the end of the hike, the weather was getting warmer, so we decided to cool off in a lake close by. Even though we were just supposed to cool off, some of us were close to swimming! It was very relaxing to get wet after a long hike. This hike took place, while following all safety precautions which include, keeping our masks on and maintaining a safe 6 feet distance.
We hiked up to 1,800 feet in elevation, and in total we covered 10.3 miles, in about 6 hours. It may seem like a long hike, but was extremely fun. I also got to spend time with my friends, while enjoying nature. At the end of our hike, we all said our goodbyes and headed home.
Here are a few pictures we took on the hike:
Scenic flowers and plants we found on our way.
An amazing view from the top!
