On February 20th, around half of our troop went camping at Lake Chabot. It was a really fun outing and a great way for us to know each other better! We all got the chance to help with cooking, created funny skits, and ate s’mores while sitting around a campfire at night. The next morning, we took a short hike around the lake and saw many interesting sights along the way.
When we arrived at Lake Chabot in separate cars, we started unpacking and the scouts brought all the luggage and items down to the campsite. We put up our tents and, with the help of our Scoutmaster, made a fire. After settling in, the scouts in the cooking groups set up and started to make veggie burgers. We each took turns doing this, and the burgers turned out really good thanks to everyone’s help! To end off the day, we split up into groups and made funny impromptu skits. The scout’s favorite was the story about the life cycle of a marshmallow, a humorous skit about a marshmallow’s journey from being created in a factory to becoming a s’more! Afterward, we had toasty s'mores and headed off to sleep excited for the next day.
We got up the next morning at around 7:00 and started to make breakfast- hot chocolate with bread and jam. Sadly, the hot chocolate didn’t turn out really good. Pro tip: don’t use water. But the classic bread and jam set us off in a great mood for the day. After finishing breakfast, we went on a short hike around the lake. There were many different birds we saw, some we never knew of. Halfway through the hike, a couple of scouts stumbled across a deer leg! It was really interesting to see, but we were pretty scared knowing there was a dangerous wild animal around. We headed back pretty soon after to start packing up. Helping each other out, we got the job done quickly and also picked up trash.
Camping was super fun and we got to do many activities! This was actually my first camping trip with Troop 123, and I can’t wait to go on more outings! There were definitely many things we learned and could improve on, but overall, this was a really exciting experience!
