On September 10, we had a camping outing to Camp Caswell. For this outing, we had to cook like before we reached the campsite. As a result, the scouts that were assigned to cook lunch for the scouts and parents met up at Mission Park and cooked lunch there. We made cucumber sandwiches and watermelon. We packed lunch and headed off to Chadbourne. We reached our campsite and we started to unload all of our gear and equipment. After that we had a quick lunch break then we were off to the beach!
The beach was the best part of this camping outing. We stayed there for almost 4 - 4 ½ hours. We played volleyball and went swimming. Some of our scouts also went cliff jumping. It was a lot of fun. Even though it was getting late we didn’t want to leave. We met a bunch of new people at the beach and they were all super sweet and we had some good conversations with them. We spent most of the first day at the beach.
After our visit to the beach, we went to clean up and shower, which took a while as there were only two showers. It started to get dark, and we all began to realize why Caswell was so infamous for mosquitoes.
As we headed back to the campsite, we started on dinner for the night, which was pasta, garlic bread, and ravioli. This was our first time having a scout cook for the cooking merit badge, but it turned out great! The food was absolutely amazing, and the patrol method worked really well.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t have a campfire because of the fire restrictions in the area at the time. However, we still had a great night, retiring relatively early.
We woke up in the morning around 7AM as usual, and we cooked breakfast. We made french toast and eggos waffles, also as a part of the cooking merit badge. As usual, the food was stellar. Unfortunately, there were no hiking trails available, so we didn’t get to hike this campout.
Overall, this campout, although it had its ups and downs, was a great one, with the beach undoubtedly being the highlight of our weekend. This camping trip, we were surrounded by beautiful scenery, great food, and good times.
