8-27 : Kayaking/Paddleboarding at Shoreline Lake

On August 27th, Troop 123 went on their first outing to start the new scouting year! It was a fun and exciting kayaking/paddleboarding event. All the scouts made their way to our favorite water sport place, Shoreline Lake and we took attendance on my huge post-it note :). Then, we made sure all the scouts got their stamps and rented out the boats they wanted! This time, not only did we do kayaking but most of the scouts also tried out paddleboarding too!

Most of us started off with kayaking, which was super fun and we got the hang of it quickly. Somehow, we would always get stuck near the shallow, muddy spot, where we weren't supposed to be in. Me and two other scouts kayaked to the middle of the lake and sat there talking until the current swept us to the shore. One of the scouts even sang some really pretty songs that they wrote, it was super relaxing! Some scouts also decided to make a kayaking train, where they all held onto each other's boats to form a big line.

We decided to keep our bags (some of them with food in it), near the office in a little cubby in the wall. When two scouts and I came back to the shore to switch out our kayaks for paddleboards, we noticed some of the bags were ripped. I came well prepared with my entire bag of hot Cheetos, popcorn, and Haribos. Little did I know that a bunch of squirrels would attack my bag, rip open all my food and start eating it out of my bag. I ended up with the whole packet of Cheetos emptied into my bag, the squirrels took the haribos, and all my clothes and even the insides of the bag had red stains on them :( Some of the other scouts’ bags were also “broken into” and ripped open a little bit by squirrels.

Despite the squirrels, the kayaking/paddleboarding was a blast as always and we can’t wait for the next one!
