2 Night Camping At Lake Tahoe : 5/28/22

On May 28th, Troop 2123 went on their first 2 night camping at Lake Tahoe. After the excruciatingly long car ride (the parents were surely done with us by then) we made it to our campsite!! We immediately started unpacking the equipment and setting up our tents, putting all of our scented items/food in bear lockers (this was bear country!!). We had some free time after, so we decided to do a tent setting up competition. The 3 mom volunteers were our team leaders/mascots and we cheered our teams to victory. Suddenly, we saw that it was drizzling. We knew that we had to set up a canopy ASAP or else we wouldn’t be able to cook. That night it rained while we were making tacos, but the cooks did an amazing job and we enjoyed the meal! :) Once the drizzling stopped, our wonderful scouts were able to make a fire!! One of the scouts even bought a multicolor fire tablet which made the fire blue and green. After that, we made s'mores and most of the scouts played on a tarp next to the fire while singing songs at the top of their lungs. Sadly, it was late by then, and we were put to bed 😭.

The next morning, we made french toast with fruits for breakfast. All the scouts loved it, and we thought it was the perfect camping breakfast!! Then, we split the scouts into our 3 teams (with adult mascots of course) and raced to Lily Pond. Mr. Juneja gave each team a map of the area, and the endpoint, which was Lily Pond. From there on the teams were responsible for finding their way, and the first one who made it there won! It was very exciting and at first, all the teams took off in different directions. Most of the teams complained about how often they went the wrong way and had to turn back, hence hiking more than other teams. Once all 3 teams reached Lily Pond, we all hiked back together and immediately started making lunch (the hike had exhausted us).

The cooks did a wonderful job with the pita pockets, and all the scouts ate a bunch of them. At this point, a lot of scouts were tired, but we decided to go to the beach anyway. Once reaching it, we knew we made the right decision because it was a beautiful sight to see. Some scouts played in the water, while others were goofing off on the shore. Yoga challenges, sand sculpting, and skipping rocks were only a few of the things we did while at the beach. We spent the rest of our day there but made sure to get back to the campsite and start our dinner (garlic bread and soup) before it got dark. While some scouts were preparing dinner, others were making our dessert! We had planned to make a brownie using a dutch oven, and although it was a lot of work, the end result was absolutely delicious. That night, we crammed nearly 10 scouts into one 4-person tent because our 2-person tents were really lonely. Being so close together kept all of us warm for a long time, but eventually, the parents told us to go and sleep in our separate tents.

We woke up the next morning, disappointed that our campout had already come to an end. Nevertheless, we got to work dismantling the tents and ate our breakfast, muffins, and fruits. We did our sweep like usual, making sure that we left our site better than we found it. After saying our goodbyes, we loaded the things into the car and set off for our long ride back home.
