In an effort to give back to the church where our troop holds its meetings every Monday, scouts in our troop volunteered to help clean the area around the church. Throughout the morning and afternoon, scouts in our troop went to the church at different shift times to complete their tasks. The main purpose of the service project was to make sure that the shrubbery around the church wouldn't catch on fire in the dry California heat and to make the area look nice. Everyone assisted in doing different things. We raked up the dry grass and leaves to make the area fireproof. We cut and pulled out dead bushes, which was probably the hardest task of them all because of the amount of effort and strength you had to put into it. We also pruned the greenery around the perimeter of the area to make it look nice. While completing this service project was tiring, it was also extremely fulfilling.
