Scouting for Food! (11/5 - 11/12)

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

Scouting for Food is an event that all troops do annually. Its purpose is to provide provisions for those in need by putting up fliers and collecting food/clothes the following week. On November 5th, our troop was assigned an area to cover, so we split up into groups of two or three to assign specific streets for scouts to put up door hangers. The event went by quickly, and we finished around 10 AM.

The following week, on November 12th, we gathered at Chadbourne and split up into the same groups to collect food from our area. As we went door to door, we were surprised to see how few people left out food on their doorstep. We didn’t want to go home empty handed, so we decided to start knocking on doors and using our persuasive skills to get people to donate food. Many groups even said that if they hadn’t knocked on doors, they wouldn't have gotten a single can! A few scouts had an eventful encounter at one home. They picked up a bag thinking it was a scouting for food package, but little did they know it was their Uber Eats! The owner of the house then came out and yelled at them; lesson learned! Unlike the first week, it took us much longer to collect the food, but it was definitely worth it, because when we met up again to count the food, we realized just how much our troop had gotten! Overall, our outing was a huge success, and we were so glad that our community had donated so much, because we knew that it would mean the world to the people who received our donations.
