Lake Chabot Campout!

Lake Chabot was a really enjoyable campout with a mix of both older and younger scouts, as well as adult leaders from other troops! It started off with lunch cooking at Chadbourne, where scouts ate FOUR sets of sandwiches, as I suppose every chef found it the most easy meal to cook. After this, we drove to the campsite blasting music along the way as usual, and immediately set up our tents and changed to more comfortable clothes when we got there. Unlike most campouts, however, we did something fairly unique. Instead of having our hike in the morning, we decided to do it in the evening. Even with GPS navigation and all trails, it took us a good 10 minutes and 5 walks around the same loop to figure out where the trail started. Finally, a younger scout discovered a random opening which turned out to be the mouth of our hike.

In total, we hiked 4 miles in 1.5 hours. Our trail was supposed to be longer, but as it was getting dark, we had to head back so we cut short the hike to 4 miles. The sky was beautiful. We got numerous sunset pictures and watched the sunset for a good 10 mins before deciding to head back. Even after we got back, we continued taking pictures of the sky because of how vibrant it was. And the moment we got back to our campsite, every single chef responsible for hiking snacks dashed to their backpacks, suddenly remembering their requirement. As the scouts, dove into the snacks, the chefs began cooking dinner, which unlike lunch, was very elaborate. Scouts had a four-course meal of pasta, tacos, ravioli, and Macaroni. After that, we sat around the campfire telling stories and playing mafia until the curfew.

In the morning, our breakfast situation was very similar to that of lunch. With three chefs making french toast and one making bagels, our breakfast was one to be remembered because we forgot the sugar. Some of the chefs just used whatever syrup or fruits they had brought, while others used hot chocolate power to sweeten up the toast. Packing up our bags/tents and sweeping the campsite went smoothly, and then we drove back to Chadbourne in our groups of cars.
