Fall Camporee 2022

Written by Jisha and Olivia

On September 16, our troop departed for the 2022 Fall Camporee. When we arrived at the Camporee, we were overtaken with nostalgia because we had coincidently chosen the same campground as last year. Everyone arrived and we pitched our tents. We ate our dinners and went to sleep to be ready for the next day. Morning arrived and we cooked breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, we had bagels and cream cheese. For lunch, we packed cucumber cream cheese sandwiches.

Since scouts were tired and cold, everyone lugged their feet over to flags and finally arrived at the moment we all had been waiting for: The Camporee Games! During the games, our troop did a lot better than last year. One of our best moments was the H ladder climbing competition, in which one of our patrols had a record time of 2:44 seconds! The H ladder competition was where you get a ladder, and you have to tie ropes to the ladder and 4 stakes, to hold the ladder vertically. After that, the team climbs over the ladder without holding it, to show its stability with only the knots/strategies we had.

Then came dinner and the tower-building competition. The dinner crew’s plan was to create marinara pasta along with a side of fruits, and brownies for dessert. As we were soaking broccolis in the pasta and water to make it broccoli like, one of the moms had a crazy idea. With the remaining boiling water, we soaked more broccoli and added some seasoning, creating delicious broccoli broth. It was a coincidence, but a very tasty one. Overall, everyone enjoyed the food and had fun.

After cleaning up, we had skits! Our troop came up with a horrible skit that only ended up with a few coughs and cricket chirps. It’s okay though because it was only a little embarrassing. We got some tasty Walmart snacks and then headed off to bed.

We woke up drowsy and everyone started packing up. It was very irritating as it was cold and damp from the night’s rain. Our fingers were about to fall off because it was freezing. Instead of having the warm, tasty breakfast we had planned, we instead had cold pancakes with whipped cream alongside a few bagels.

We went to flags that morning and found some very surprising news during announcements. Our troop won 2nd place in the tower building. We also were shocked to learn that we earned the spirit stick! The spirit stick has a bunch of random objects from past troops who had it, and our troop gets to add our very own token to it, to symbolize our troop. We will bring it back to the next camporee, and our legacy will be continued. This was an overall great experience and everyone had a great time!
